Arkwright campion "Vesuvius" (Catchfly) - Lychnis arkwrightii.
Blooms all summer!
An attractive perennial herbaceous plant that forms a compact bush 35-40 cm high. Bright orange-red flowers, up to 3 cm in diameter, combine interestingly with greenish-bronze foliage. It blooms in the second year after sowing, in June-August. Winter-hardy. Unpretentious. Prefers open sunny places. Does not tolerate stagnant water.
Lychnis arkwright can be used to create spectacular bright spots in group plantings in flower beds, mixborders and alpine slides.
Agricultural technology.
Frost-resistant, unpretentious plant. Grows well in sunny areas. Prefers well-drained, light, non-acidic soil without stagnant water.
Sow seedlings in early spring. Shoots appear in the light after 14-30 days at a temperature of +20+25 degrees. They are planted in open ground in early June; before planting, the plants must be hardened off. They are transplanted to a permanent place in August at a distance of 25-40 cm from each other. In dry weather, abundant watering is required.
Faded flowers are removed. In autumn, the above-ground part is cut off. They are grown in one place for up to 6 years.
Propagated by dividing the bush and seeds. During the growing process, regular loosening and weeding are carried out, and periodic fertilizing with a complete complex fertilizer is also carried out.
Soil: They like leafy, moist soil mixed with sand.
Care: the culture is responsive to 2-3-fold application of mineral fertilizers. Shelter for the winter is not required.
Diseases and Pests: Lychnis can be affected by root rots, loose smut, leaf spots, rust, aphids, leafworms and slobber spittle.
Reproduction: seeds, cuttings (terry forms) and dividing the bush. Sowing seeds and dividing produced in the spring. Sow in April - July in open ground. The optimum temperature for germination is 18 degrees. Seedlings appear 18-24 days after sowing. For more friendly germination, cold post-sowing stratification is recommended for a month. In one place, plants are grown for 4-5 years. After this period, in autumn or spring, the bushes are dug up, divided (depending on the power of development into 3-5 parts) and planted at a distance of 25 cm. At the beginning of summer, young shoots that have grown up to 20-25 cm are cut into cuttings and rooted using conventional technology . Rooted cuttings are planted in a permanent place in late August - early September.
Usage: for group plantings, cut poorly.

Bot. syn.: Silene × arkwrightii.
